Due to recent advancements in medical technology, regenerative medicine has become more widespread within different aspects of healthcare. This is especially the case within the field of orthopedics, and today we are going to look at how this technology is being used!
Regenerative medicine is defined as "the process of creating living, functional tissues to repair or replace tissue or organ function lost due to age, disease, damage, or congenital defects".
When the field of regenerative medicine first emerged it was primarily concerned with organ transplantation, which is the process of taking an organ from the body of one person, and placing it in the body of someone else.
Over the last few years, there has been growing experimentation into the use of regenerative medicine in orthopedics wit exciting results!
Degenerative joint conditions, such as arthritis or cartilage damage, are a common issue observed by orthopedic surgeons and doctors.
In the past the best way to deal with degenerative joint conditions has been either through pain management, surgery, or both of these options in conjunction. The option of regenerative injections now exists, which provides a longer term solution that is also much less invasive than surgical options.
At Onto Orthopedics we are excited to now be able to offer several regenerative treatments at our clinic in Plano, Texas!
To give you an example of just how innovative this medical technology is, we are going to explain one of the most popular treatments in this field that we are already providing.
During this treatment, Dr Hayden is able to extract stem cells from the blood of the patient. These cells can then be injected into a damaged joint. In a similar but separate procedure, Dr Hayden is also able to extract fat cells from a patient in order to also inject them into a damaged joint. Both of these treatments can provide the patient with much relief from their condition!
