Finding the Right Auto Injury Attorney

Auto Injury- First Steps

Were you the victim of a motor vehicle collision or accident? Except for the most minor auto collisions we typically recommend that anyone in an auto collision seek medical attention quickly. Even accidents that appear minor can produce increased adrenaline flow and aches and pains from strained and sprained muscles and joints. Onto Orthopedics can help propel your recovery process with our care and over 30 combined years of experience working with auto insurance companies, auto injury lawyers and auto injury specialty physicians.

With some of the latest technologies, techniques, and telemedicine services, our experts can help you through the entire process and get you back on your feet. Shawn A. Hayden, MD, PhD is a Harvard-trained orthopedic surgeon with many years of experience diagnosing and treating trauma victims. Dr. Christian Andriano recently joined our team as a licensed physical therapist. While our mission is to help you medically, we can also help you find a qualified personal injury attorney for monetary assistance.

How Can an Auto Injury Attorney Help?

Finding a doctor to treat you may be challenging when you are injured in a motor vehicle collision. Many orthopedists do not treat patients suffering from auto injuries because of difficulties collecting from health insurance companies when an auto insurance company is involved. Your insurance may be able to withhold payment until your auto accident case settles – often up to 2 years.  This is when a good auto injury lawyer can help. Onto Orthopedics is familiar with the personal injury process and has worked with local auto injury attorneys that practice personal injury law.  Many of these attorneys specialize in car accident cases and can help get you compensation more quickly for your injury. These attorneys can also often help you find other specialists to treat your injury quickly. Call us at (214) 731-3008 for more information!

Choosing a Law Firm

After you have decided to seek legal counsel, you may ask yourself “What type of firm?” Often the choice is between a large firm or small legal office. Large law firms in the DFW area commonly process greater than 100 auto accident clients per month. This means that they may have many extenders and paralegals handling your case.  While this may be efficient, there may be less time with the actual attorneys to receive TLC.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

What is PIP?

Personal Injury Protection (or PIP) insurance is an extension of many auto insurance policies. PIP is a comprehensive automotive insurance provision designed to cover expenses incurred during and after a car accident regardless of the party at fault. PIP typically covers medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost income, child care expenses, survivors' loss, and household services. In some states, PIP insurance is a mandatory part of first party auto insurance while in others it is optional. While PIP coverage is optional in Texas, auto insurance companies are required to offer it to you. Unless you rejected PIP coverage in writing when you purchased your auto insurance, chances are the provision is included in your policy.2 Medpay is another common car insurance provision that can cover car accident-related medical expenses.

How Can PIP Help with Auto Injuries?

If you have been injured in an auto accident and are searching for a way to pay for related medical expenses, PIP or Medpay coverage may help. While payments resulting from litigation may be delayed by months, PIP coverage typically pays out quickly. There is also typically no need to determine fault before using your PIP or Medpay coverage. Onto Orthopedics accepts various forms of payment for our orthopedic care, including PIP. We have specialists available who are trained to treat injuries such as those sustained in auto accidents. Onto Orthopedics is the office of Dr. Shawn Hayden, a Harvard trained orthopedic surgeon. Our clinic also maintains some of the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies to get you back on the road faster including Mi Eye 2, ultrasound, and direct radiography (DR) x-ray systems.

See an orthopedist after an auto accidentAn auto accident is a very harrowing experience for the sufferers and their near and dear ones. It not only leads to physical injuries, but also causes severe mental trauma that may last for years after the accident. See an orthopedic surgeon after an accident to help treat any injuries.

Auto Accidents are a common cause of death in the United States (1). A few common causes of auto-accidents are distracted driving, speeding, reckless driving or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, crossing beyond stop signs, late night driving, wrong lane driving or abrupt lane changes, driving too close or not keeping safe distance, driving in snow, rain or fog, driving when fatigued etc. Distracted driving indicates inattention while driving. This can include fatigue, physical and mental ill health of the driver (2).

Auto accidents can lead to injuries ranging from a simple abrasion to minor fractures to life threatening injuries. The major injuries if unattended within a set few hours, can lead to lifelong impairments.

One must bear in mind that often injuries are not felt or detected immediately. There are certain hormones called endorphins which are released after the shock of an accident. These endorphins along with the shock of the jolt felt due to the accident act as painkillers and because of this the victim fails to feel the injury or pain right away. The symptoms like pain, giddiness, distress etc. are often felt a few days later after the initial shock phase is over. These can be detected earlier if one visits an auto accident orthopedist without delay. He will do a thorough check-up to detect any injury caused by the accident.
